SCOUTS South Africa is a volunteer run organisation with a limited number of paid staff. The Northern Cape has a very active and vibrant Scouting programme run by a fantastic team of volunteers. This is our dynamic and experienced Northern Cape management team!
Regional Commissioner: Mr Nolan van der Merwe
Nolan van der Merwe was born in Kimberley in the Northern Cape. He is a man with a great sense of humor who serves others with dedication and honesty. When he was young, a friend introduced him to Scouting and he enjoyed it so much that he joined the Scouting Movement in 1986. Now, Nolan is the Regional Commissioner of the Northern Cape. One of his favorite Scouting memories was the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in 2011. Nolan wants to strive to be a service to each and every member and he is committing himself to assist with the growth of his region.
Regional Property Representative: Mr Benneth van Wyk
Benneth has been involved in Scouting from the side lines for may years. he recently joined the Scouting Movement in a uniform position. As a graduate from the University of the Free State and the Central University of Technology, he holds BA and BTech degrees as well as numerous certificates, some achieved whilst on a study exchange programme in New Delhi, India.
Regional Team Coordinator Adult Support: Mr John Cedani
John is employed as an Occupational health nurse and joined the St Boniface Scout Group in 1962 and remained with the Group till 1967. In 1968 he was appointed Assistant Troop Scouter, after which he completed various Warrant, Woodbadge and Adult leader courses and served the Movement as Troop Scouter, District Commissioner and Adult Trainer in the Central Division and Northern Cape / Free State Province.
Apart from attending the 17th World Scout Jamboree in Korea he also managed to attend various National events ranging from the Senior Scout Adventure in the Cederberg, Cub Pow Wow andSANJAMB. He also staffed on many Gilshort PLTU’s. John received various long service medal awards, certificates of merit and the 40 years long service bar.

Kimberley District Commissioner: Mr Kagiso Makoloi
Known by many as Peace, Kagiso Makoloi was born in Kimberley and is a High School Teacher majoring in Geography and Setswana. Peace started his Scouting career in 1981 at St Peters Scout Group in the township of Galeshewe, Kimberley until 1989 when he enrolled for tertiary studies. In 2001 when he was a teacher in Kuruman, with the help of Scouts North West he started the Kuruman District (formerly the Mothibistad district) and is also a member of the Training Team.
He holds a B. Ed (Hons) degree from the University of Pretoria specialising in Education law and policy.
Kuruman Kimberley District Commissioner: Mrs Shiela Pampoen
Shiela is employed by the Northern Cape Department of Education as an educator and served as a Troop Scouter at the Scout Groups Glenred, Seupe and Gaegake respectively.
Shiela joined Scouting in 2001 when Kuruman was in the North West Region and completed a Woodbadge course in 2009 and an ALT course in 2015. Shiela served as an Assistant District Commissioner and has participated in many Scouting events.
